The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are the latest in Sony’s flagship noise-cancelling lineup, and they continue to set the benchmark for premium over-ear headphones. After weeks of daily use, I can confidently say they offer an incredible listening experience, with a few considerations to keep in mind.

Starting with design and comfort, Sony has completely revamped the look compared to the XM4s. The XM5s have a sleeker, more minimalist aesthetic with lightweight build and ultra-soft ear cups. They sit comfortably even during extended listening sessions. I used them for long flights and work-from-home calls, and not once did I feel ear fatigue. The headband distributes weight evenly, making them one of the most comfortable over-ear headphones I’ve owned.

The sound quality is outstanding. Sony has fine-tuned the drivers to deliver clear mids, sparkling highs, and deep, controlled bass without distortion. Whether I was listening to classical music, podcasts, or bass-heavy EDM, the audio was balanced and immersive. These headphones support Hi-Res Audio and LDAC, which makes them an audiophile’s delight when paired with compatible devices.
